Scylla Publishing is an independent publisher based in Australia of sapphic speculative fiction for adults, including fantasy, mythic, SciFi, steampunk, urban and contemporary fantasy, romantic fantasy, dystopian, literary, and space opera.
Scylla launches in September 2026 with the publication of our first anthology “Who Am I? Sapphic Speculative Fiction of Identity and Purpose”. Our first call for submissions received over 250 stories worldwide from Denmark to Kenya and everywhere in between!
We will publish novels, novellas, and anthologies. Initially we will publish Australian and New Zealand authors, then branch out as our readers get to know us. We hope to balance mainstream tastes and push the boundaries of sapphic speculative fiction.
Scylla aims to find and amplify sapphic voices and sapphic speculative fiction stories that get overlooked in traditional publishing. LGBTQIA+ communities and our allies are vocal about wanting these stories, now more than ever.

Why are you called Scylla? (Pronounced SIL-A)
In Greek mythology, Scylla was a beautiful sea nymph who was transformed into a monstrous, many-headed sea creature by a jealous goddess.
Queer people are a magnificent, many-headed community sometimes painted as ugly. We are reclaiming our beauty and love, while embracing all the other parts of who we are. Writing can be beautiful and ugly by turns, and we want to read it all.
We are who we are, we love who we love, and we create art that reflects this. We embrace our community. We are strong and fierce, romantic and cozy, harsh and soft, resilient and hopeful. Scylla sang when others wanted her silenced. We will use our voices. We will not be silent, in this or any other time.
